Greetings from Fifty. Last week, our third novel was released. It's a mystery set in the court of Elizabeth I, full of adventure and intrigue. It includes stolen jewels, dangerous secrets, hidden messages - all your favourite bits. But very little romance, I'm afraid. That might disappoint you. You're a dreamer, a romantic, a believer that there is a Gilbert Blythe for every Anne of Green Gables.
In that, we have been disappointed.
However, I am pleased to report that publication is all we dreamed it to be. It's hard work, not only because we write in the free hours between a full-time job and volunteer work, but also because we have to haul books around to sell at festivals and events. Don't worry, it's worth it. We have our first official launch event next week, and I'm thrilled to report it's sold out. People are excited about a new installment of Lady Catrin's adventures. It's so lovely to hear people talking about it...to read reviews about it...to see my publisher posting about it. And that leads me to another dream come true: the Crime Writers' Association posted about it, too. That's right, just as we always wanted, we're members of the Crime Writers' Association.
A lot of what we always wanted has happened. We live in a land remarkably similar to Narnia, we have sweet little pets, lovely friends, a great family. We have the education we wanted. We have seen the Tower of London and the cliffs of Dover. And, most importantly, we have had the opportunity to write and publish both fiction and non-fiction. Remember day-dreaming about holding our book in our hands? Seeing it on the shelf at a bookstore? That has happened now, and it never gets old. My fingertips still tingle when I brush them over our name on the cover, and for that I am so grateful.
I know, you want to know whether we've seen Venice or Versailles. The answer is: not yet. But we'll keep dreaming. Nothing seems as impossible as it once did.
