Happy Agenda Day!

I love Agenda Day.  It's a cozy fun afternoon/evening that usually involves chocolate.  I can celebrate on the sofa in my pajamas, and I don't need to coordinate any large groups of people to have a great time.

What is Agenda Day, you ask?  It is the day in early December when my agenda for the upcoming year arrives.  I transfer all my birthday notifications and major events into the new agenda, all nice and neat and tidy.  I set up the ribbon marker and maybe a special bookmark or two, and I set it ready on my desk to start recording to-do lists and appointments for the new year.

So far I'm the only person I know who celebrates Agenda Day, but I don't mind.  I love that sense of fresh, vivid organization.  It's like those first twenty minutes after you clean your house, before the dust settles and pet hair starts to drift about.  Or the morning you set up your desk at a new job, with everything in its particular place and sitting at precise angles to its neighbour.

Being organized, and maintaining a high standard of tidiness and organization, tends to go in and out of fashion.  One minute time and space management gurus are saying 'a tidy environment enhances creativity', and the next they express profound concern that you might be obsessive-compulsive.

But I don't care.  I will always set up dividers in my kitchen drawers and collect small items in baskets in the cupboards to make it look neater, not matter what they say.   I will always set out my clothes in the closet in a particular way, and I will always make sure my towels hang straight.  It feels great to see those ordered colourful rows.

Ah, yes, it feels great - but not as great as Agenda Day.  Agenda Day is special, because it comes but once a year.  And I'm already looking forward to the next one.
