It's that time of year when everything gets tense and expectations for jolliness are unreasonably high, while bank accounts get dangerously low. So I thought I would just make a list of things that are making me smile in the midst of the stress, in hopes they cheer you up too.
- The picture above, which summarizes life pretty much perfectly
- An epic battle I saw between a squirrel and a magpie for ownership of the shed roof (the squirrel won, judging from the squawks as the magpie flew away)
- My colleagues, solemnly discussing how many bottles of wine will be enough for our Christmas lunch. They may have made some actual mass and volume calculations
- The mass exodus from X to BlueSky
- New comics from Yehuda and Maya Devir
- A shower of gently falling leaves
- Puppies out walking in winter coats
- Planning gifts for family and friends
- The cat toys I found that are shaped like Christmas puddings
- Pete Wicks on Strictly Come Dancing. The pink leather trousers from last week made me laugh so hard I cried
It must be said, life sometimes seems like a swirly dark mess right now, despite all the tinsel and sparkling lights appearing everywhere. But it will get better. Somehow, someday. It will get better.
